What is Creativity?.

 Today's lesson we talked about creativity, what is creativity.  The activity was to produce a CD cover, with totally random band name, ablum title and picture.
  •  To create a name for the band we used WikiPedia's random page selector tool, using the first article title on whichever page pops up, Mine was 'Armenia'.
  • To create the album title by cutting and pasting the last four words of the final quote on whichever page appears when you click on the quotationspage random quote seletor tool. The four letters turned out to be 'or the only truth'.
  • Finally to for the cover we went on Flickr's most interesting page and downloaded the third picture on that page.
  • Then using Photoshop I created the CD cover putting all these elements together, I have created something new from something old.
My version;

Ideas & Theories:
  • "A process needed for problem solving...not a special gift enjoyed by a few but a common ability possessed by most people" - Jone 1993
  • "The making of the new and the re-arranging of the old" - Bentley 1997
  • "Creativity results from the interaction of a system composed of three elements: a culture that contains symbolic rules,a person who brings novelty into the symbolic domain, and a field of experts who recognise and validate the innovation." - Csikszentmihalyi 1996
  • "There is no absolute judgement [on creativity] All judgements are comparisons of one thing with another." - Donald Larning

What is creativity?

One of the possible areas you could be asked about in the exam is creativity. The projects you have undertaken will hopefully have felt like an opportunity to display your creativity, but you will need the chance to discuss what you understand by creativity and what it might mean to be creative.

The assignment options at AS and A2 all offer constraints for your work, whether it be making pages for a music magazine, the opening of a film or the packaging for an album; one of the reasons why you aren't offered total free choice is because people often find that working within constraints gives them something to exercise their creativity, whereas total freedom can sometimes make it really difficult to know where to start. It's why genre can be interesting- how has something been created which fits with certain structures and rules but plays around with them to give us something a little bit different?

The word 'creative' has many meanings- the most democratic meaning would really suggest that any act of making something (even making an idea) might be seen as a creative act. In more elitist versions of the term, it is reserved for those who are seen as highly skilled or original (famous artists, musicians, film-makers etc). an interesting third alternative is to think about how creativity can be an unconscious, random or collaborative act that becomes more than the sum of its parts.

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Evaluation - Question Four.

4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

These are all photographs I have taken of all the programs we used on my MacBook;
imovie - to edit of film, play around with the structure to create our horror teaser trailer.
itunes - to copy of music from Jamendo onto itunes to place it over our clips.
garageband - to look for sound effects that would be suitable for our trailer, and edit the copy free music we downloaded to make it fit in with the tralier, to create the right tension.
Underneath are print screens of the websites we have used and the reasons why we have done so.

Screen shot of you tube, we used youtube to publish our horror tralier, to get opinions from people outside of college, general puplic. We engouraged people to comment on what they though of our video. If we hadn't of used youtube we wouldn't of been able to publish our tralier.

This is a sreen grab of  font generator, this enables you to create more effective and cteative font, we made our title of our film 'possessed' using this website, we made it look like dripping blood. If we hadn't of used this website the outcome would have made our font basic and not as creative, making it look less scary.
This is a screen shot of blogger, we have used to record all of our research, idea's and upload our final products.

This is a screen shot of Photoshop, we used this program to edit our photographs and organise text to form our horror poster.  If we hadn't of had this program our final design would have been very basic, and wouldn't have looked as effective as it does, as we used different effects to make the photograph more scary.
This is a screen shot of Weebly we used this program to create our website, it was a restricting in being able to have moving images and have a more creative background, however this was one of few free programs to make websites, so if we hadn't of used weebly we would of had to pay to create one.

This is a screen shot of Jamendo, we used this website to download copy free music, in the horror section.
